Because CrossFit consists of varied movements performed at high intensity, it is crucial to know where your personal level of fitness is to avoid injury.
“The motto of CrossFit is very unique and different from anything else out there; it’s just a different mindset,” says Mario Ashley, who is a level 1 certified coach. Many gyms require workout tests to set how many days a week a new client can handle without crushing them. “We all think we are invincible and that can be dangerous,” says Ashley, who has been coaching CrossFit for five years. Because of the intensity of this workout regime, “you have to have a realistic understanding on where your fitness level is,” Ashley added. Don’t just jump in thinking your body can handle the burn. Pace yourself and trust the professional’s assessment of your strength.
