Florida Skin Center and The Melanoma Research Foundation invite you to participate in The Miles for Melanoma Fort Myers 5k event.

Major strides are being made in melanoma research. With your support, the Melanoma Research Foundation can fund research that will unlock the mysteries of this devastating disease, and lead to better treatment options, and eventually, a cure.

Melanoma is the deadliest skin cancer, yet receives less research funding. The incidence of melanoma is increasing faster than any other cancer, and an American’s lifetime risk of developing melanoma is one in 50.

By fundraising for our event, you can help us give more research grant money to doctors who are helping us find new and better treatments. In 2011 the FDA approved two new melanoma drugs – it had been 13 years since we have seen a new treatment on the market. Those drugs exist thanks, in part, to the research done by our grantees. We can’t make that kind of progress without your support.

We hope to have over 500 attendees and raise $20,000. We know you can help us reach this goal and make the Miles for Melanoma walk one of the MRF’s largest events.

The central location of Germain Arena creates the perfect location for Southwest Florida residents and vacationers to meet up for an Independence Day morning 5k run and walk.

The third and final event in the Elite Events Summer 5k Series will take place at North Collier Regional Park.   Runners will race through the park on closed pathways and have plenty of views of vegetation, fountains, and water.  This flat and shady course will give runners a great chance to run a fast time.

At the conclusion of this event, the final Summer 5k Series standings will be posted and the awards ceremony will take place immediately after the 5k awards.

Post race festivities include the latest popular music, refreshments, and a variety of snacks.

The Naples American Sprint Duathlon and Triathlon at beautiful Sugden Regional Park will open its gates for what promises to be a great event. Swimmers will start on the sandy beach in the swimming area and swim exactly a quarter mile across to the Margaret A. Sugden Amphitheater where another fine sand beach awaits their transition to the bike. Spectators will have a unique view of the swim from either the elevated amphitheater or several piers that jut out into the crystal clear freshwater lake.

A quick sprint across the hand set pavers and it’s on to the scenic bike course. Then it is off to the run in one of the best places in all of Southwest Florida in that runners will have nearly 100% water views of wetlands, lakes, beaches, sailboats, the sailing center, piers, wildlife and all while running in mostly shade. Friends and family will greet racers at the finish in the front of the amphitheater.

Post race festivities include the latest popular music, refreshments, and a variety of snacks.
