The beautiful Sugden Regional Park will open its gates for what promises to be a great event. Runners in both the duathlon and triathlon will start off with a 5k run in one of the best places to run in all of Southwest Florida. Runners will have nearly 100% water views of wetlands, lakes, beaches, sailboats, the sailingcenter, piers, wildlife and all while running in mostly shade.  Spectators can see nearly 100% of the run all while seated comfortably in the stadium.

Then athletes transition to the bike.  The scenic bike course winds through the tree-lined streets of Lakewood.  After the bike, Triathletes will swim a quarter mile and duathletes will run 1 mile and all finish in the stadium in front of family and friends.

Post race festivities include the latest popular music, refreshments, and a variety of snacks.

6th Annual Go Red For Women Luncheon

GoRed02
Friday, May 1, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort & Spa, 5001 Coconut Road, Bonita Springs, FL 34134.
Hosted by The Southwest Florida Office of the American Heart Association

Themed around sisterhood and inspiration, the event is organized for and by Southwest Florida women to empower sisters, mothers, daughters and friends to take control of their heart health and support others living with heart disease. Guests will learn how to prevent heart disease by creating a culture of health for themselves and their loved ones during the sixth annual luncheon which features:

  • 10:30 a.m. Registration and networking
  • Sponsored booths, giveaways, activities and a heart-healthy meal
  • NBC-2 News Anchor, local Go Red For Women campaign spokesperson Stacey Deffenbaugh as emcee
  • Keynote address by Dr. Javier Cuevas: A Battle for your Heart…and your Brain

Heart disease is the number one killer of women, causing 1 in 3 deaths each year. In fact, it claims more lives than all forms of cancer combined – taking one mother, daughter, sister or friend every minute.

While there are many similarities in the symptoms of heart disease in men and women, there are even more differences – differences that could save, or end, a life. The annual Go Red for Women Luncheon was designed to help address such issues and focuses on heightening awareness of heart disease, creating a passionate call to action and generating funds for education and research targeting women.

The 2015 SWFL Go Red for Women Luncheon Co-Chairs are Brittany Cohill and Dr. Shona Velamakanni. Cause Sponsors are Arthrex and Lee Memorial Health System:
