You don’t have to deprive yourself or go to extremes to be your healthiest self! Instead, try these super-simple tips from three Florida fitness experts.
It’s the middle of February: remember all those resolutions you made oh, six weeks ago? Now is the perfect time to refresh your resolutions! Here are three easy, healthy lifestyle tips to help you do it.
Pay Attention!
“The single best thing you can do for your health in 2014 is to become more aware of your current lifestyle, says Jessica Smith, a certified wellness coach and host of Jessica Smith TV in Miami. “Are you eating mindlessly in front of the TV or checked out, scarfing down fast food while in a rush, eating in the car or over the kitchen sink? What foods make you feel energized or healthy? What foods make you feel tired, bloated and run down? Take note of what you are eating, when and why you are eating it. Getting in-tune with your body can majorly impact your health, wellness and weight.”
Exercise Isn’t A Free Pass, Silly
“There is no sense in eating bad food no matter how many calories you burn in the studio,” says Andrea Rogers, founder and creator of Xtend Barre in West Palm Beach. “Food is fuel and you need to carefully consider your nutrition to make the most of your meals. Try to eliminate processed foods, cut down on gluten, and eat a lot of green vegetables, healthy fruit, grains like quinoa and protein. Incorporate healthy fats like chia and sunflower seeds—[they] are amazing sources of antioxidants, calcium, and magnesium.”
Have Fun and Be Social
Utilize all of the great outdoor opportunities in the area for fitness: standup paddle boarding, kayaking, biking, and the beach, suggests husband and wife team Thomas and Sylvia Higgs from In Motion 24-Hour Fitness Center in Bonita Springs. “Don’t forget all the great events around the area too, like 5Ks, Mud Runs, and charitable events! Involve your family and friends or workout with a partner. It’s not as easy to skip a workout when someone else is expecting you to show up!”
So what are you waiting for? Get out there and start creating a new you!
