Hi, my name is Lianne Martin. For the past few years, running has been my passion. I love writing about it on my blog Sunshine Runner, talking about it, (if you know me at all, you are already aware of this fact) and getting out there and getting sweaty. Training for my first marathon changed me. I loved my long runs, I loved making and meeting weekly goals, and I loved all of the amazing connections I made with other runners. In the past year, I have completed two marathons, countless half marathons, and a handful of other fun races. I have gotten hurt and recovered, felt elated and disappointed, but crossing the finish line after everything makes it all worth it.
This year, despite all kinds of registration obstacles, I will be running The Chicago Marathon on October 13th. Excited is the understatement of the year! Since my first full marathon finish, I have dreamed of running the Chicago Marathon. The city is one of my favorites and the race is one of the biggest in the world with some of the best spectators. I have all of my training planned out and written out in my planner—did I mention I can be a touch crazy too? It is intimidating and a little scary, but I am absolutely looking forward to it.
There are tons of fall races of all lengths and training through the summer can be daunting. It takes a lot of self motivation and dedication. It also takes a lot of hydration and Bodyglide. My goal (other than running my ass off for 18 weeks) is to create a space of inspiration, motivation, and support for all athletes training during the summer. Whether you are training for your first 5K or a fall Ironman, (in which case, call me – I want your awesomeness to rub off on me) everyone can use a little motivation, or a laugh now and then. I will be documenting my journey and would love to hear all about yours. Sometimes just knowing someone else’s alarm is going off at 4:15 AM too, can help motivation. My official training commences June 10th. Cannot wait to get started and tell you about my journey along the way!
Who else is training this summer? What for and what’s your plan? Sound off in the comments below!
